First - Here is your one-stop-shop for Potion and Posion information.
Next Random bits of information:

Basic Types of Potions
Regen's
Ward's and Remedies
There are 4 types
Ward's protect you from a set amount of damage (the same way a damage shield protects you from melee hits). The nice thing is these are the longest lasting potions (1hr duration) so taking them is not as time critial as other potions. But note: their durations is actually either 1 hour or until they have absorbed their maximum amount of damage.
Remedies are instant cures, to be used during combat, that remove a set number of levels of a DoT. Since the Remedy removes levels rather that actaul DoT's, it is possible for it the remove multiple DoT's per application. The nice thing about Remedies are the have the fastest cooldown time (15 Sec) of any potions so you could use several during a battle.
All Wards are the same color and all Remedies are the same color but Wards are different color that Remedies. This means you could not have multiple Wards active at the same time, but, you could have a Arcane Ward up and consume a Noxious Remedy without overwriting the Arcane Ward.
Buff's
Pretty simple concept here. Add's to any stat or Health or Power.
They are all the same color, so you get to choose just one you want to buff.
Stat buffs last for 30 minutes; Health & power buff last for 15 minutes. So, if you use buffs don't try to keep them up all the time. Bring them up once you get to the killing fields.
Stat buffs are only useful if your gears has not already maxed out you stat. Otherwise, it's a waste.
Max Stat = (level * 7) + 20
If your stat is maxed via equipment then consider Health and Power buffs which are not limited.
Finally...
I have talked a lot about color, Hopefully, you get the idea color is important. There are 3 different colors (Red, Green, Blue). Here is my suggestion for each:
Green - Stat buff - Get your primary stat potion unless stat is maxed by equipment then get Health buff if tank; Power buff if Caster. Only get power buff if you run out/run low on power alot. Otherwise, skip.
Red - Remedies - Get them all; Unless you are fighting a sure win, use often to get rid of those nasty little bothersome DoT's
Blue - Regen's & Ward's - I hate that these two different types can't stack. But since you have Remedies I would forego the Wards and get the Regen's. Get both Health and Power HoT's; Apply as required - LOL

Next Random bits of information:
- Though potions are charms they don't have to be placed in a charm slot to be used. Put them in your backpack and drag to a hot key works great... BTW, this is true for ALL activatable charms.
- Potions tend to have a long cool down period so timing is important.
- The color of the potion is important; different colors stack, same color do not.
- Potions can be made from common materials or rare materials
- Potions from rare materials always have a little better effect & a much higher price
- Each potion is only one use but they stack in 20 batches
- 1 loam creates up to 10 potions
- Another thing... When you drag your potions to a hot key it gives you a counter have the TOTAL number you have. So, I have a stack of 10 and a stack of 20 INT buffs, for example. You drag the 10 stack to your hot key and the Hot key says 30 you add more and the counter goes up; use one counter goes down...

Basic Types of Potions
Regen's
- You can regenerate either Health or Power and you have a choice of either an instant heal or a HoT.
- I suggest the HoT since the total Health/Power regenerated is greater
- Effects work in battle!!
- Regen's are the same color which means you can't effectively regen both health and power during the same battle. Gotta choose oone
- HoT is very short duration; should only be used in battle
Ward's and Remedies
There are 4 types
- Arcane - for Magic, Mental and Divine
- Noxious - for Posion and Disease
- Elemental - for Heat and Cold
- Trauma - for Melee DoT's
Ward's protect you from a set amount of damage (the same way a damage shield protects you from melee hits).
