here's a macro and hot key setup that speeds up switching harvesting tools and makes it easier and faster to harvest: create the following file: C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest II\harvestall.txt with the following commands: target_nearest_NPC useability gathering useability mining useability foresting useability trapping useability fishing useability collectingcreate a macro with the following command: do_file_commands harvestall.txtput the macro on your hot key bar and drag and drop the harvest tools in your inventory right next to the macro. now you can press the hot key for the appropriate harvesting tool as you approach your harvest-able node. you no longer have to target the node. the macro will target the nearest thing and attempt all the ways to harvest it. i tried this all day yesterday and it works even better than i expected. especially with the change to targeting that allows you to move to a different target without affecting your harvesting. oh, and i realize that pressing the 'F' key does the same thing but i couldn't figure out how to put the 'F' key on my hot key bar. also, with the macro, you don't need to point the mouse cursor to the object that you want to harvest. it's easier to just run up right on top of the node and use the macro. And Shy, this will make you you the fastest 'shiny' harvester in all the land let me know if you have any questions.

You know at first I thought the tools were just a waste. However, after using them on lil to harvest roots in SS, the tools seemed to cut out my harvesting of 1 root by quite a bit. Instead of getting 1 root a lot, I would get 2-3, then 1, then 2, etc. I seemed to be getting more per pull.
I had used the pick for rocks as I had one given to me and I would always get a variation of 1, then 2-3, 1 or high as 5 on some pulls. But without using the gathering tool with Lil on roots, I was getting a lot of 1, 1, 1 pulls instead of multiple roots. I am not sure if this is how the system is supposed to work just something I noticed on Sun.

Hmm they said that the tools didn't increase your chance of getting more harvests, they were supposed to just make it faster. There was a huge debate about that on the forums when they put the tools in the game.
But, the tools do actually make a big difference in harvest times, it's especially nice when there's a node stealer around lol you can usually get most of the harvests. I didn't get them for a long time, but now I am glad I got them, they are definitely worth it imo.

Hmm.. I need some tools I need roots in a bad way... and it seems that I always get 3 roots per node... so stingy! I get 3-5 on every thing else all the time

What tools? I know that when I harvest the trees I have an axe that comes out or when I mine the rocks I have a pick that I see myself using but I didn't buy these. Are you saying you can upgrade your harvesting tools? Am I confused?

There are tools you can buy/get crafted which speed up your harvesting time on nodes.

There are actual items that Woodworkers can make that you can equip that will make harvesting faster. It equips in your charm slot (torches and such) and you get things like an axe, pick, etc. I would recommend getting one or two tools for nodes you harvest all the time. Like me, I'll get something for roots and wood probably. However, other people get all the tools With the tools though, you have to have them equiped for them to work.

ok, so.... any of my fellow woodworkers care to make me something? I need an axe and a pick. Is there something for roots? I just ususally see myself using my hands. Probably would prefer that over the pick if there is something.
Thanks! Mirul~

the tools are made of the 'wood' for that tier:
shovel for gathering saw for foresting pick for mining trap for trapping fishing pole for fishing
i bought a 'teak' 1 for each because i was curious and wanted to work on this macro. i think i paid about 1.5 G for each in the black market. i saw them as high as 7 G in the freeport market.

Oh, the tools also get faster when you get the higher tiered ones. So the lower tier ones may not seem like such a huge improvement, but by the time you are using the T7 ones it's a lot faster. I believe the level of the tool you can use is based upon your crafters level. (They had it as adventure, but that was kind of silly and I think they changed it finally)

Actually, it is based upon your highest lvl adv/TS I believe. As my alt liliith, lvl 59 warden can use lvl 50 tools but is no where near a lvl 50 crafter.

Yeah, it's based on which ever level is highest. So, if you're a level 55 adventurer and level 40 artisan, you'll be able to harvest up to level 55 zones, etc.
