The other night I helped Inex with a race in the Thundering Steppes. I had all my speed buffs on and we both seemed to be wearing jboots. However, when we ran together he was much faster than me!
Inex is an iksar and I'm kerra.
Do the specific races have different speeds?

Iksar are more Aerodynamic! There is less wind resistance against battle-hardened scales then fur.
But im curious about that too, could weight have a factor? I know if your overburdened you do move slower or might even be unable to move at all. In eq1 monks had to deal with a very low weight cap or their abilities and skills suffered for it. Even now, i try not to carry too much with me, and my armor is "light" class as well. I havent heard any hard facts about how weight really matters in this game though.

Well, I didn't have the icon that showed that I was over burdened. Because I don't get the icon that shows me that, I assume that I run at normal speed.
If I'm carrying a lot of junk (that doesn't make me over burdened), does that really make a difference?

Well I dont know for sure but it seems to me that the little races like halflings, gnomes and ratongas are always faster than me. Not too hard actually considering how many trees I run into . I have not seen any decrease in speed due to weight though unless you are past your max carrying ability. For a while I was actually carrying around 5 teak strongboxes when I went and harvested, I have since switched back to backpacks though after a nasty experience with one of those icky eyeball things that lowered my strength and I could not get away. haha I have 3 teak boxes and 3 bags in my inventory. The only time weight is a problem is when I'm mentoring below a lvl 30. I'm all kinds of over weight! Heh, so I usually have to drop some weight before mentoring and I usually decline all drops But I think you're right, those little races are quick buggers! A long time ago, I made a Barbarian alt and she was soooo sloooow. It was like I was running in goo.

I remember reading a while back about how different races actually did run at different speeds. The only part I can remember, though, is that Dark Elves are the fastest, and the Defiler's Wraith form is the slowest. Gives a use (albiet a small one) to the guise of the deciever, huh? ;D

Well, I have a little wood elf and she seems to run faster than most. Could be because she's so little though and because she's a child of nature

I tried a Barbarian once, and she seemed SOOOO slow..I don't think she really was, I think it was just the perspective and graphics of it.
Sometimes with Saine I seem like I am running slightly faster than some races, but it's not enough to actually make a difference really.
When you were running around and seemed to be going slower, was one of you guys lagging a little bit?? I have noticed that..if someone lags they either seems to zoom off, or stop dead.
Also just curious...you were helping him with a race, when I read that I assumed it was for the Jboots HQ...but you say he was wearing them..in which case he was wearing the pre-order ones..They may have a higher speed increase on them than the HQ ones do.

I will check, but im think the preorder ones are a measley 5% increase only. And yes those are the ones i have (I was sooo excited for them after getting spoiled on my T-boots from EQ1 but they are not much difference.) Horses would be much nicer, if only i could cough up a couple plat to get one

I wish I could cough up plats! Yeah, we weren't lagged that I can remember... but Inex was definitely faster than me Maybe we should do some testing... have a race with all the guildies... no buffs or jboots!

That'd be fun. Possibly an event at the Guild Meeting whenever we have it? ;D

I'm thinking after the guild meeting we could race along the beach for bragging rights... then go play some capture the flag!

There are no racial speed differences. Obviously, connection speed is the biggest factor. The next big thing to consider is stacking bonuses. The pre-order Jboots may only be 5% but it may stack with all the various buffs that you may not get. The last thing to consider when comparing run speeds is how the players navigate. Saine always used to think I was running faster than her but I was just running the same speed but would make small corrections in direction to avoid trees, mobs, etc. that when made far enough in advance would save 1/10th of a second over waiting til the last second and running around it. It's not much but it does make a difference if done right.
