On Saturday, across the nation and in some other countries, as well, people gathered at city halls & other public places to protest the passing of Proposition 8 in California, barring marriage rights LGTB people. Of course, it's a significant issue to me: my partner & I have been together for 8 years, and "married" for 6; though our marriage wasn't legal in Pennsylvania, and still not recognized. Why were we marching for something that happened in California? Because we believe it is an issue of national significance; of human significance. ANYWAY, I put together a little photo album if any of my "online family" would like to take a look at pics from Philly's protest & march. We had a good turnout of over 3,000 peeps. www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=41914&l=16007&id=512357224

At the risk of over simplying this is just another case of government making laws for stuff that should not be their concern. You have a tough road ahead of you I'm afraid but for what its worth I support you and the others facing this challenge.

I agree Uhlen. It is the government interfering in the lives of the people. Pierre Trudeau (former prime minister of Canada) said, “The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation.” Unfortunately, it was the people in the nation (well, California) who voted to support Prop 8. Absolutely heinous in my opinion. I'm not going to launch into a political (or religious or social) debate on the forums though, because I try as much as possible to keep those debates out of my gaming life. There are far too many disparate points of view to want to cause a rift between my and my gaming homies.

If it makes you feel better, I'll delete a long post about how I agreed with your deleted diatribe.

I live in California and support you 100% on this Fasci. It was a huge deal for us here in California and I am so glad to see that it has inspired people around the country to take action because of it's significance. Prop 8 was especially hurtful to Californians because it repealed the rights of same sex couples to get married legally and the backers or Prop 8 spun it in their ads and mission that it had to do with Education and the negative effect not passing it would have on kids.... which was a complete and total bunch of BULLSH*&. Prop 8 had NOTHING written in it about education. It was such a step back for us as a State and potentially a nation that I almost cried when I watched it pass.

Someone was speaking on Saturday about the last time a similar measure was passed, and went over by a landslide, while Prop 8 was won by a much smaller margin. That's progress, at least. It ain't over 'til it's over, right?
Anyways, thanks for your support guys. The more LGTB folks stand up & just be themselves; the more that people in the larger community actually SEE that gay couples are just as *boring* as they are, then the more understanding we'll have on both sides and the harder it will be for the far right to pull something like this off again.
and Frazzled.... NO NOT THE FUSCIA HELMET! MY EYES! MY EYES!!

As I see it, this is an issue of personal rights and freedoms and is already addressed in our Constitution.
It was the intention of the founding fathers that the liberties of the few would never be decided on by the many. Sadly, that is what is happening in our country right now as most Americans are under the false impression that we live in a 'majority rules' nation, when it is actually a representative republic. The real job of our government is to insure the rights of the minority, unfortuantely the very same minority they're harming.
What the Framers wrote into law and is flagrantly ignored is that if you can't give a logical, secular reason why government should meddle with individual rights, then government stays the hell neutral on the subject. All of the reasoning behind and supporting hate like prop 8 is either directly religious or some pseudo-rationalization of it.
The religious of this country, specifically many christians, feel that the institution of marriage is theirs and theirs alone and only their narrow-minded definition should be the only one to apply. I go by what's morally right. Actual morality, not bronze-age morality.
I could never bring myself to tell another human being that their love is any less than mine or that their civil rights don't matter as much as anothers. That is EXACTLY what is being done in senate chambers all over this country.
Anyone who voted for this law should be ashamed of themselves.

Fasci, as a resident of California, let me apologize for our recent vote on Prop. 8, yet another odious attempt by the government to tell people how to live their lives. I wish I could say I was surprised by the vote, but I saw first hand how many lies were told by the Yes on 8 campaign (protect the family? support free speech? keep the children safe? These were all slogans used by the Yes on 8 campaign). I made a practice of pulling my car over every time I saw one of their rallies to ask them to explain exactly how denying equal rights to all would protect anyone, or support free speech, etc. I never convinced anyone, but if they are to be believed, several people I do not know (and do not want to know) are now praying for my soul. If being a bigot is a prerequisite to having a soul, I guess I will have to do without one.
My sincerest apologies on behalf of my state.

Rykshi!! (I watched Firefly again the other day on Netflix, and LOL'd at "Mine is an Evil Laugh. Ha-ha!" and thought of you. /meh. Any prayers for our collective souls go to the higher good, I believe, regardless of the person sending it up. So.... Blessed be!! Good for you for starting the conversation. Even if they weren't convinced, you did your part to sow a seed of tolerance.
