ok here we go ......... <takes a deep breath>-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elinea and Kaefir had finished their 'meal' and the guards were about to leave and take them back. Both of them had turned around, and were facing away from the gate. They never saw what hit the guards. Neither did two of their captors.
Two of them fell, and the others were behind Elinea and Kaefir.
Elinea turned around in time to see five strangers fighting the two remaining guards. She glanced over at the gate, and saw five more strangers engaging the gate guards. Elinea suddenly realized this was her and Kaefir's last chance.
She started to desperately untie her hands, "Kaefir, let's SHOW them what we learned!"
Elinea had her hands untied with Kaefir's help,
"Eli, take the guard. I'll back you up."
She looked over at her friend for an instant, "Well Eli, you're not the only one with 'talents' ", Kaefir flashed a smile .
"Let's get 'em, Kae."
Elinea's first fire cast hit one of the guards a very big Barbarian was fighting. The guard went up in a flash of fire and smoke, and lay still.
"What in the name of Prexus......... Who did THAT?"
Kendo and Gimbali looked over at Yizlanu, "Don't look at me gentlemen, I don't do fire."
"Gentlemen, we have a caster", Alfreya's voice came to Kendo.
He turned to Gimbali, "Gim, I'll take the caster out, you get the others coming our way."
"Kendo, don't. The caster is one of the prisoners."
"How..... never mind, I'm sure we'll find out........."
Over by the gate, the fight had turned difficult for the five members.
Shylah had one guard down. But another one came and temporarily took her attention away. She finished killing the first and was going for the second. Finally, she had them both dead.
She had time to turn around just once and was grabbed from behind and a knife put in her side.
Shylah stopped, and then elbowed her attacker and turned.
Her attacker, a Ratonga, knocked her down. A knife came to her throat. He had her pinned to the ground.
He smiled, "The name is Rahtimus. Remember it."
But a familiar whistle, then voice came from somewhere behind her attacker, and she smiled.
"Hey, RAT BOY!"
Rahtimus grabbed his right shoulder and screamed in pain.
He'd been hit by one of Xoleth's arrows.
"Shy, quit playing with the Ratonga and get out of there!"
She went into stealth before Rahtimus could recover, and ran to the gate.
The rescue party had gotten down to the main gate guard and one other.
Kendo and Gimbali had decided to take advantage of their new allies, and let them take the other. Making sure they didn't have the guard get the better of the girls of course, they had Kaaylin helping them.
Eli and Kae had killed the last guard. Kendo and Gimbali, after a hard fight, took the last threat to the gate escape out of the way. They were clear to the gate, and the others had it open.
"OK folks, we RUN. Get through the gate, and call the horses. We're not home yet."
"Ken, Shy and I are staying behind to make sure......"
"NO. No one stays! Kaaylin, I want you and Shylah right behind us. No heroics."
The groups moved out together, with Toqua's pet stationed at the entrance waiting. Kendo stayed back and watched as they went toward the gate being held open by Xoleth and Axxll. Flaena and Alfreya had taken charge of the two girls.
He was about to join them, when he was hit on the head from behind with a sword. His weapon went flying from his hand and off to one side out of reach.
He was knocked to the ground. He rolled over to see a large troll in armor standing above him. Before he could move, the troll had his sword in Kendo's left chest and left it there for a few moments. He smiled, and then removed the sword.
He looked at Kendo and pointed to himself, "Baash."
"Baash, good name for a troll."
"Baash, he laughed and pointed to Kendo, Qey-no-sian."
"Let's get one thing straight before you kill me, troll. I'm Halasian, not Qeynosian." He was quiet for a few seconds,
"There's a difference."
Kaaylin was counting heads as all of them went through the gate. It was down to her and Shylah now.
"Ok Shy .... wait .... Kendo's not here."
She looked over and saw him, "Kendo's in trouble."
The bards went into stealth and ran to their friend's location.
Baash stared down at his captive. Kendo stared up at him, and heard Shylah whisper from his right side, "Kendo." She pushed his sword within his reach, and he reached out and grabbed it.
Before the troll captor could react, Kaaylin thrust a knife in his left side.
Kendo brought his sword up and ran it through his abdomen, and twisted it.
"I knew there was a nick in your armor somewhere, troll."
He jumped up, grabbing his chest, "I'm fine. Let's get out of here."
Before he left through the gate, Kendo turned back around one last time. He looked at the troll getting up from the ground and took his right hand and saluted him. For a brief instant, Baash stared, and then he too saluted.
There was a loud shout behind him, "KENDO!"
The gate was closing as he ran out to join the others.
