And on with the Story !! ......
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kendo looked over at Axxll, "She's got that tone in her voice again, Ax. Ax, why don't you go over there, pick her up, put her over your shoulder, and carry her out?"
"Me? Why not you? You're the guild leader. Responsibilities of leadership you know."
"Ok, well maybe I'll try talking first."
"Good luck. I'll back you up if you need me."
Kendo walked over to where Alfreya was standing next to the wall.
"Alfreya, let's get through Nek Forrest before nightfall."
She turned around and faced him, "Kendo look over there and tell me what you see."
"Oh, and Kendo. 'Carry her out'? It's a good thing you didn't."
She looked at him and smiled, "Elven hearing, you know."
She nodded over to the area a little way from the wall, "Just look over there and tell me what you see."
"I see prisoners and guards."
"Kendo, you don't see anything unusual about those 'prisoners'?"
"No."
"Ken, they're young."
"And they're prisoners.'
"We can't just leave them here."
"Alfreya, they're prisoners of the Overlord. You remember what Queen Antonia said recently about becoming involved....."
"Yes I know. 'No becoming involved in Freeport politics without authorization.' But Kendo, they're young and elven."
"They're prisoners of the Overlord for a reason, Alf."
"Political prisoners perhaps?"
"All the more reason to NOT become involved. No Qeynos guild is to get involved in these types of issues without prior consent from the Palace. Period."
"But they are elven, Kendo."
Kendo looked down at Alfreya and sighed, "Alf, I hate to tell you this, but there have been elves who have betrayed to Freeport."
Alfreya looked downcast and whispered, "Yes, I know. How one of my own people could do that....is just beyond my understanding I'm afraid."
"Alf, I understand your feelings, but I have to think about the group's members' safety. They come first. It's just too dangerous."
"Kendo, we've done more dangerous things than this."
He looked back at her and smiled, "Ok, We'll put it to a group vote then. But one thing I want you to understand, it has to be unanimous."
"Understood."
He turned around and faced the others, "Alright, Alfreya has brought something to our attention. Now we need a decision.
We need a vote on whether to rescue the prisoners, or go home with no rescue. Folks, it has to be one or the other. Vote your peace, there is NO right or wrong in this. Of course, I have no vote except in the case of a tie. But we're either all in or all out."
There was total silence.
"Those for the rescue, please raise your hand. Those opposed, keep them down. However, I want everyone to know this. If we can not find a way to safely carry out this little endeavor, I can still call it off. Your safety comes first and always will. So, if I think it's too dangerous, it's a no go."
He looked back at Alfreya, "Sorry Alfreya, but I don't want anyone killed."
"I understand, Kendo."
"Alright then. Vote your mind."
All nine hands went up.
"That's it then, Kendo sighed, ok, everyone is in aggreement, it's unanimous. The floor is now open to ideas on how to do it."
