....... and on with the story ......... and the fun part
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alfreya and Gimbali stood safely hidden away behind a wall from the West gate guards in the Vagrants Camp.
"Alfreya, how much longer do ya think he's gonna be?"
She smiled at her fellow guildmate,
"Gim, I know, it's not much fun. But Kendo said to wait and meet them here. We're going to have to be patient. "
She thought for a moment, "And of course stay out of trouble."
He sighed, "Aye, I know. Be patient."
Alfreya gave a warm smile to her friend. She had known the dwarf for some time now and knew he hated to not be active.
He was always the first volunteer for an assignment or the first to jump in and help out anyone in need.
He hated to be 'doing nothing', as he put it.
"Be patient, he'll be here and we can go home."
As if on cue with her words, a tall dignified Barbarian guardian came out of the invisiblity shroud he was in.
Seconds later, six other people came into view out of a shroud.
"Alfreya and Gimbali, glad to see you two."
He looked around and noticed Shylah, "And we have one added member. Shylah nice to see you."
"Nice to be here...alive." She looked over at Kaaylin and smiled.
"Oh, there's a story behing that statement, I think."
"Um well. Yes, Ken actually, um there kind of is", Kaaylin's voice was quiet.
"And?"
"Shy had a little run in with an assassin named Uhlen. I helped her get out of the situation. I thought the best thing was for her to get out of Freeport with us. Safety in numbers, you know."
"Of course, glad to have you." Kendo looked around the group and silently counted heads,
"Well, all here......no,wait, not here", he frowned, "We lost Yizlanu. Alright, I'm going back to find her."
"You're going to need someone to track, Kendo. It'll be a quicker trip."
"You're right, Xoleth. Come on, bring your ranger tracking talents and let's go find her."
"Everyone stay here and be safe while Xol and I are gone."
He turned to go,when a female voice made him stop and turn back around,
"And just what was that edict you announced a few days ago about not going to Freeport or doing anything in Freeport without a priest with you?"
"Flaena......"
"Don't 'Flaena' me Kendo. I'm coming."
He sighed, "Right then, let's go."
The party of three started to leave when a small rusty piece of metal came out of the air close to them and landed at Alfreya's feet, "I believe Yizlanu has found us."
A tall, slender Erudite female came out of the ether around her.
"Yiz!"
"Kendo. Sorry I got separated from you, but a guard saw me and I had to run and hide for awhile."
She looked behind and past Kendo to Gimbali,
"Gim-bal-i."
Alfreya looked over at Gimbali and whispered, "Uh oh."
Yizlanu took a long sigh and folded her arms, "Gim, I am curious about something."
"Aye, what's that?"
"Now I am a woodworker, as you know. Not a very good one, but I do make some fine staffs and bows occasionally. I've always tried to use the very best wood I could afford or find for them. Using poor or rotten wood would make very poor quality weapons, don't you think?"
"Aye, I do."
"You, on the other hand, are a weaponsmith. One of some reputation in Qeynos I understand. Correct me if I am wrong please, but don't you use the best metals you can find to make your weapons?"
"Always."
"I see, just as I thought."
"So Gimbali, tell me this. Why was I running all over Freeport collecting rusted pieces of metal? Surely, not for your weapon making."
There was silence.
Alfreya looked over at Gimbali, "Gim?"
"Did you go all over Freeport for them?"
"Yes, all over. I learned every street, alley, and dead end in Freeport. I also learned where every guard was and whether he/she could see me when I casted invisibility. I also learned every hiding place ..." ,she stopped, "oh so that was the reason."
"Gimbali."
"Yiz."
"Do you mean to tell me that this trip to Freeport was to teach me the way around, so I can come and not get lost? That was the real reason?"
"Aye."
She gave a long sigh, "Gimbali, ladies and gentlemen. I would appreciate it greatly if you would be totally honest with me, always. I can take the truth, thank you."
The conversation stopped. Kendo cleared his throat, "Alright, we're all here. Let's go home."
He turned around to go, but his fellow Barbarian was in front of him blocking the way.
"Kendo," he pointed to a point somewhere behind him.
"What is it, Axxll?"
He pointed again, "Look."
Kendo turned around to see Alfreya looking across the wall to a point off in the distance.
"Alf, we're going home, come on."
There was no reply.
"Alf?"
"Kendo, come here and look at this please."
