The times are gonna get a little tough for them now ---- and keep an eye open for a "familiar face" ----- <hint> would someone please, please tell Hetae to read this installment??
If he hasn't read any others, he needs to read *this* one

The girls were both carried uncerimoniously back to the Overlord's office and dumped into chairs.
D'Lere stood facing them with his arms crossed.
"You had to try it didn't you? You had to try and escape."
Elinea and Kaefir were both silent.
"Very well. You chose to try this pitiful excuse for an escape attempt. You are about to have your first lesson in the consiquences of being disobedient. "
There was another brief silence before D'Lere continued,
"However, I am a fair man. I want to know who was the instigator of this little plan. Normally, you'd both be punished for something like this. But this time, I am only going to punish the 'mastermind' so to speak. Now, just who's idea was this?
Or am I to have a conspiracy of silence on my hands and punish you both severly?"
Before Elinea could speak, Kaefir tried to stand up. She was pushed back down into her chair, but she managed to speak anyway,
"It was all my idea. I did it."
"Kaefir!"
"Ah, so our little healer has some rebellious spirit in her. So be it. Kaefir will receive the punishment and Elinea none."
The Overlord nodded to the guards, "Take them away."
They were grabbed by the shoulders and pulled to their feet. But before they could get the girls to the office door, Elinea turned around and spoke,
"Kaefir lied, it was all my idea."
"Eli, please!"
There was an uncomfortable silence, "Kae, you know I did it. I should be the one who is punished, not you."
There was a quiet, dark laugh from D'Lere,
"As I suspected all along. I find that our Freeport wizards are more likely to react before thinking than our priests are. I suspect that that is the way of wizards in general throughout Norrath."
He looked at the girls and shook his head, "Ah yes, and now we have another problem. You two have lied. This is another thing that is never allowed, ever. You will both receive the punishment for these two events."
"But YOU said....."
"I said IF the person responsible had told me that they did it, Elinea, I would have only punished them and not the other.
You lied and so you both will have to face the results of your actions. But you Elinea, will receive the more severe punishment. And it will be harsh, I can assure you."
The Overlord started to speak to the guards and stopped.
A smile came to his face, "I believe I know just the place for our two escapees. The perfect place."
He came over and looked down at Kaefir and Elinea, then back up at the guards, "Take them to the dungeons below Execution Plaza. I think they will find the environment there very interesting; especially at night, in the dark."
D'Lere again nodded, and they were taken out of the office.

Zocien sat at one of the tables in Freeport's Arcane Academy reading and taking notes, when she suddenly became aware of someone standing beside her watching.
"Hetae."
A handsome Teir'Dal male bowed his robed head in acknowledgement, "So, you knew I was here, Zocien."
Zocien turned in her chair to face him, "Things dealing with the mind never get by me, Hetae. I'm a coercer. I'm trained to notice everything around me."
"Indeed? Interesting. I never thought the gifts of a coercer were very special or terribly needed. A profession best left to the inferior among us."
"Inferior?" Zocien felt her anger starting to rise, and her voice took on an edge, "I thought our people had gotten over that predudice hundreds of years ago, Het. Much like the one that says, 'the lighter the skin, the more inferior the blood.' "
Hetae laughed, "Yes, well while it is true my skin is somewhat lighter than yours, I can tell you in truth that you do not want to get into a battle with me, Zocien. Necromancer or not, my mind is as good as yours. And I have the advantage of being trained in necromancy. My pets are rather formidable to say the least."
"I wouldn't recommend getting into a fight with a coercer, Hetae.
They control the mind. And whomever controls the mind, controls everything."
A smile slowly came on Zocien's face, and she turned around to once more concentrate on her reading.
"Zocien, I did not come here to debate you. I came because I am curious about something. I need to have a question answered."
She stopped reading and again turned around. "A question about what, may I ask?"
"About our two young, um, I believe His Lordship called them 'proteges'. I would have thought that I would have been introduced to them by now. Where are they?"
"Oh, those two. The two elves from Faydwr. I believe they tried to 'escape' and His Lordship decided that they needed to be taught respect and reminded of their proper place. It seems they are now being punished down in the dungeons below the Execution Plaza."
"That is a very interesting bit of information. I wonder why I wasn't informed of this development?"
"Why would you have been informed? I am in charge of the young caster and the Dismal Rage of the young healer."
Hetae looked up at the ornate ceiling of the room. He cleared his throat and spoke,
"Zocien, His Lordship decided that I was to be the one to oversee her training. I am more experienced and I have talents which you do not have. He has made you the second in charge."
"Indeed, so he did? Well, I am not one to argue with His Lordship."
A brief thought went through Zocien's mind for a moment, "Not at this time anyway, the time hasn't come for us."
"So second in charge. Well, if that is what his Lordship wishes, I will follow his orders."
Zocien turned back to her research and was quiet.
"The Execution Plaza dungeons. Ah, yes. A very good place for torture. The atmosphere is very condusive to changing a prisoner's mind or attitude. I do hope they are left there over night."
If he hasn't read any others, he needs to read *this* one
