The Captives of Freeport - Chapter III, Part 2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The guards had grown impatient with the two of them by now, and gave sharp jabs to both Elinea and Kaefir to get them to move. Elinea turned to glare at her guard, and received a harder jab in the same rib. Elinea felt her anger beginning to get the better of her and she thought how wonderful it would be to be able to cast on her tormenter.
Kaefir had not moved, even with the pain inflicted on her. She stood and stared.
Finally she spoke again, as the guards pushed them down the hallway in the direction of the two large, ornate, dark wooden doors.
"Eli, it's evil. It's all around us."
"I don't feel anything, Kae. It's just the cold."
"No. No, it's something else. It's a presence, there's someone here. I can feel them."
They arrived at the doors and one of the guards said something to one of the door guards. He grunted and opened one heavy door and disappeared briefly inside. The next thing Elinea knew, she saw the doors both open and they were escorted in by their guards and the other guards.
The room was large and dark, with only two torches to light up a room with two chairs in front of an impressive dark wood desk. It took Elinea's eyes a moment to adjust, and while they were doing so, she heard the doors close. She turned around in time to see that now she and Kaefir were alone with just two guards, and one other person.
The man was very tall, with long white hair tied back behind his neck with a black clasp. He wore plate armor and leather, and stood with his hands behind his back looking out the office window.
The figure turned around silently and nodded to the guards. Elinea and Kaefir were pushed into the chairs and forced to sit down. Elinea made an attempt to not sit as they wanted her, and a deep, somber voice came from their captor by the window,
"Disobedience will not be tolerated in any form. Is that understood?" he said.
Elinea looked at him and was silent.
"Good. I'm glad we have more of an understanding of what is to be expected now. At least for the time being." Both girls continued to be quiet and he spoke again, "Do you both know who I am and why you are here?"
Elinea's voiced surprised her as she spoke, a different, more authoritative ring was in it, and it took her by shock somewhat.
"You're the Overlord of Freeport, Lucan D'Lere. I have no idea why we're here or what you want us for."
She stopped talking. The Overlord stared at her, and for a very brief time, felt his hands break out in a sweat when a small blue flame flickered in both of Elinea's eyes.
"I'm glad you've heard of me, makes our introductions much easier." He stopped briefly before he spoke again.
"Elinea."
Elinea looked up with a wide eyed surprise.
"Oh yes, I know who you and your companion are” Lucan continued. “And what you are. My advisor has told me all about the young caster from Felwithe and her companion healer."
D'Lere looked over at Kaefir for a moment.
"It's Kaefir, I believe. The Dismal Rage will be most pleased we did not have to kill you. You will make a very exceptional inquisitor."
"I'll die before I become an inquisitor" proclaimed Kaefir.
A deep, malevalent laugh echoed in the silent office, "You don't want me to state the obvious now do you? Or are you going to make a foolish choice just like your mother did?"
Kaefir started to stand up out of her chair, when a guard grabbed her shoulders and pushed her back down.
"My Mother's actions are not up for debate, she did what she felt was necessary. Just as I will" she exclaimed.
"Perhaps. But you must ask yourself, my young healer, did her actions change anything? And/or, will yours?"
"Neither Kaefir nor I will bring dishonor on our family's name, D'Lere."
Elinea's guard gave her a painful jab to her side in response.
"I will be addressed as 'My Lord' or 'Your Lordship', is that clear?
Anything else will be, 'unacceptable', shall we say. And you will be corrected."
There was a brief silence from the Overlord.
"Ah yes, and your family, Elinea. Your father was a member of the Felwithe High Council, I believe. And your great grandmother was a wizard of some reknown in her own right, wasn't she? Dare I make this very early prediction, Elinea, but you may one day surpass even her. If you cooperate and do not do anything childish."
"Now, as to the reason I went to all of the time and effort to bring you both to Freeport. You are here to be trained, in the Freeport philosophy of course, in your respective areas of potential expertise, and under my final supervision, naturally.
Elinea, you will be trained under the guidance of the mages of the Arcane Academy; while Kaefir will be trained by the priests of Dismal Rage. I expect them to use whatever it takes to train you and do it correctly. They will be reporting back to me on a daily or semi-daily basis. So you two are under my final supervision, as I have already said."
The room was silent.

All of these submissions are the creation of Elinea. As has already been stated, Eli has a true gift for story telling. I felt that they needed to be shared and I hope that you have enjoyed reading them as much as I did. Here's hoping that Eli will find some time to continue on from where she left off !!!!!
