You’re Not in Qeynos Anymore …….
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, this is just for fun -- a salute to all those TV episodes -- and fan fiction -- of this type....remember the Hercules Legendary Journeys (2 I think) with Kevin Sorbo playing himself/Herc?? Ah, yes they were classic...
Also some fan fiction has been done this way where the hero finds him/herself in a very strange place...you'll see when you get into the story.....enjoy!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two stood next to the damaged knowledge portal in the center of Longshadow Alley. The night was very dark and there was no one out at this hour. No one but two dark figures who stood close and whispered.
"Perfect time for this trial", thought Thyrza. The dark elf turned and faced her Teir'Dal companion, "Have you brought it, Indyr?"
"Of course. Here it is safe and in one piece."
"Good. If the Overlord knew we had this and knew how to use it, we would be dead now."
"Thyrza, are you sure this will work? These crystals haven't been seen in hundreds of years. They only had a certain number of charges and this one may be used up."
"Is the advancement of our Thexian cause worth the trial and danger, Indi?"
Indyr sighed, "Yes, of course it is; but these crystals are somewhat unpredictable."
Thyrza gave a slow smile, "That's why the target of this trial is Qeynos. All we need to do is set up a transport from the Thundering Steppes to the South Qeynos gate and send the undead from the Steppes to the gate. It's very simple."
"Not so simple, remember, I'm the one who's being sent through to see if we were successful or not."
"Indyr, you're a wizard of more than a few seasons. The guards at the gate are not as strong as you--they won't kill you. This is an honor."
Indyr looked over at her companion. "So you keep telling me."
Elinea was back in Freeport. They had her in the basement of the Arcane Academy and alone in the dark. This time though, it was one of her dreams; the ones that came back to haunt her every so often. The ones she had tried to get rid of, had tried to forget, and couldn't. The sound broke through her dreams. Just a small sound at first, growing louder and more persistent as Elinea tried to ignore it. It was not a sound she could remember from the dreams before, it was real. The bells were ringing ---- the Bells of Vhalen.
Elinea jumped and sat straight up in bed; "The Bells of Vhalen. Qeynos is under attack....."
She had heard many stories about the famous bard and his bells, but they had been silent for at least two hundred years. Now they were ringing again, and Elinea understood it to mean Qeynos was in great danger.
Even though it was very dark in the room, Elinea knew exactly where her staff was. It was always beside her bed leaning against the wall. She grabbed her robe from the foot of her bed, quickly put it on and ran down her stairs staff in hand. "Whatever is attacking the South Gate is in for a very big surprise."
Now at sixty six seasons, Elinea had felt it was her duty to defend Qeynos as much as she could, so she had moved from her room in Castleview to South Qeynos. She picked a residence close to the south gate and a little secluded. She preferred quiet, but didn't wish to be too far from the gate in case something like an attack occurred. Now she was glad that she had.
Qeynos was in bedlam. All of the Qeynos guards were rushing toward the gate, and Elinea was not too far behind them. Just a few hundred yards to the open gate and Elinea found out what was attacking the city.
Undead; hundreds of them.
"But there aren't any undead in Antonica except on the Forbidden Isle, in and around Stormhold, and around Caltorsis; but they're not this dangerous. I hunted them when I was in my teens and twenties. These are Steppes undead. What or who got them here?" Elinea thought.
Life in Qeynos had been uneventful and quiet until now. The guards took care of whatever problems came up--and the problems had been few and far between. Now, they were somewhat overwhelmed, and Elinea could tell they were glad to have her staff and spells to help out.
She wasn't a fighter, and so her melee skills were not the best, but she wasn't totally unfamiliar with hand to hand either. At least not for a wizard of her seasons. She had had to go to melee at times. It never failed that when she had needed a staff or dagger, she had always had one. She had learned to keep one or the other handy at all times.
The skeletons were not that much of a challenge, and Eli and the others were doing quite well killing them off. Elinea had decided that the job was just about finished after about a good busy forty five minutes of fighting. There had been lots of them, and they had just seemed to come from nowhere.
One of the guards finally turned to her in between fights, "How do you think these undead got here, Elinea?"
She shook her head, "I don't know, but I have feeling Freeport is involved somehow."
Elinea made a mental note to go to Freeport and have 'one of her talks' with the Overlord.
The undead were down to just a few and they seemed to have stopped coming, Eli decided her help wasn't needed anymore, so she turned back toward the south gate to go home.
She turned and started to walked down the path when suddenly, a strange, cloudy blue apparition popped up in front of her. She'd never seen this 'cloud' before and she stopped. The cloud started to move toward her, and before she could move out of the way, it had engulfed her and she lost all her sense of time and place.
She felt nauseous and dizzy for a few minutes, and all she saw was darkness. Suddenly, she felt something hard beneath her feet. Her eyes had shut involuntarily when the cloud 'grabbed' her; now she opened them. All she saw at first were very bright lights; then after her eyes focused, she saw the lights made some kind of words.
The strange letters, or at least what she thought were letters, spelled out 'Riviera' in very bright multicolored lights.
“Well, ok this isn't exactly Qeynos; I don't think” Elinea was thinking, as she stood off to one side of a very busy, long, flat surface with a crowd of humans walking down the sides of it.
"'If you ever find yourself in a strange place, look for someone in authority'" she said to herself, "Good advice, Kae. Just wish you were here with me now."
She started to cross over to the other side of the long street, when she caught a glimpse of herself in a window; it made her stop and look for awhile.
"Mother of All, what has happened?"
The reflection that looked back at her, wasn't her. Her ears were human; in fact, Elinea looked completely human.
“I hate Halloween night, all the creeps come out,” Sgt. Thomas Baker thought to himself as he handled the next 'client' as the police department liked to call the people in the district substations now.
"They're not criminals, creeps, street people, or wierdos anymore, Tom. They're our clients." He could still hear his superior and good friend, Greg Nixon giving him that infamous lecture.
“We work homicide; so why tonight, of all nights, do Greg and I have to do 'desk duty'?” Sgt. Baker sighed to himself.
He was just about to tell his desk partner for the night that he was going on dinner break, when a woman came in. Not many women caught his eye anymore, he was very happily married to a very beautiful one himself, but this woman was different. Almost other worldly in some way. Medium height, blue eyed, and striking red hair.
The only thing "strange" about her was her apparel.
Tom sighed to himself “Just what I need, another weirdo! This one in a robe and carrying some kind of ..... what do they call them in 'Lord of the Rings'? Staffs?
Well, she is kind of built, um, rather like a brick house.” His thoughts froze for a second and then “Sherry would kill me if she knew I was thinking that” the thought of his wife's reaction to his thoughts made him smile for a moment.
“Someone in authority; well, alright. And just what would one in authority look like here?” Elinea thought as she walked into the semi-open door of the Las Vegas Strip substation. The only reason she had picked this particular building was because of the uniformed people going into it.
“Not exactly like the Qeynos Guard. But then, one should not be picky in these situations,I suppose.” Elinea took a deep breath and walked up to the uniformed gentleman at the desk.
"Excuse me, sir. I'd like to speak to someone in authority if I might?" she asked.
“My gosh, where is that accent from?” Sgt. Baker thought before he spoke.
"Someone in 'authority'?"
"Yes, please."
"M'am, you'll have to wait your turn, I'm afraid."
"Oh, I see. There's no one I can speak to now?"
"Is it an emergency?"
A deep sigh escaped Elinea, "Well,no,not exactly. I suppose I can wait."
The best thing to do in a new environment was to keep yourself low and just observe the surroundings. Elinea had been in too many very dangerous places to not have learned a few important survival techniques by now.
"Then I'll just have a chair and wait."
Before she could sit down, the sargeant handed her a piece of paper with the number '53' on it.
"What is this for?"
"You'll have to take a number" he said as a small apologetic smile came over his face.
"Oh, well; alright. What number are you on now?" Elinea inquired.
He pointed to the machine above his head on the wall. It had the number '40' displayed.
"I see, so I'm in for a bit of a wait then."
"I'm afraid so, m'am." Was his reply.
I thought that I would share some of Elinea's early works with you and maybe this will encourage her to give us some new installments !!!! I hope that you all enjoy these as much as I have.
