Now that I'm closing on 70 and seeing the scarcity/ridiculous prices of Masters 70+, it looks as though I'm going be bugging people soon regarding Adept III's and maybe even some gear I've never had anyone make ANYTHING specifically for me so I want to make sure I take care of them. Besides providing the rare component and the cost of material, what's a nice little extra to say thanks? 10g? 50?, 1pp? just be thankful I didn't turn you into a frog? a day at the spa? ;D I just want to make sure I express my appreciation accordingly. I look forward to hearing your replies

When I provide the rares and costs of fuels I would say I tip on average between 5-10g. I have tipped on a few things for 20-25g if it was an item I had worked really hard to get mats for or the person was just especially cordial etc. Generally I tip what I would be more then happy to receive had I made something for someone else. There is a point where I would feel bad if someone gave me a large amount of money for doing a combine for them. My comfort threshold probably would never exceed 20-25g.

I'd like to toss something out here, too, to all of our wonderful crafters. I'll preface this by saying that I work in fundraising, and it's my job to help people feel good about giving money towards something they think is worthwhile (and sometimes convincing them that MY cause is worthwhile, LOL!).
I think it's helpful to remember that people generally LIKE to compensate others for their work, providing they have the means and that they have some sort of relationship with the provider. While I may not like to pay my electric bill every month, I generously tip the woman who cuts my hair because I think she's cool and I want to help her business out. There's a relationship there, and I feel good about giving her the extra cash.
I'm no Emily Post, but to me, it can be embarrassing to ask to have something made and be denied the opportunity to return the favor with coin or materials or whatever. I know we're all very generous to each other, and we want to help each other out. I'm not saying that we should charge each other, but if someone offers you coin for your services, remember that the other person probably gets a good feeling from giving you coin for your work. If you don't need/want it, perhaps suggest that it could be donated to the guild funds instead.
What do you guys think?

I'm all about paying for services especially to a guildie. I'd rather pay a guildie than a stranger Thanks to you crafters for all your hard works and generosity

Donations to the Guild fund are a good idea!
Depending on who I am dealing with, the other suggestion that I have passed on is to "Pay It Forward" or "Keep the Wheel Turning".
I was particularly blessed by many of my former guildmates when I was just starting out who not only made items for me but supplied the rares needed as well. Now that I am a little more established myself, I like to return the favour as much as possible. So if the spells or items that I am making are low level I generally don't charge much (if anything!) to make them and simply ask the recipient to remember the favor and to pass it on. This ends up making both of us feel great and seems to have always been well received !!

Okay now that I have again managed to blame her for my addiction Seriously here is my take. Levels below 50 pretty much not a problem for costs (not counting rares etc). When we start talking T6, 7 and 8 the fuel jumps considerably. So consider this when you are asking your guildies to make stuff for you, at no point should they lose out for the generosity. Having said that.... I have asked my Friends (Alfreya, Xoleth, Gimbali) to make me tons of stuff over the years we have been playing together, while they always say it is not necessary I almost always try to add a bit of something to their pot to cover things but always feel I have not sent enough. For me as a Jewelry for guildies it is standard Rare + fuel + tip if you want. Cover the first two and I am happy that you are happy. You know I make no sense when I am sick... I am trying to say at least cover the cost to your crafter (and dont forget the normal stuff that is in there they have to harvest).

I couldn't agree more with Alfreya and Fur. It does make me feel good to tip someone for their work to make me something. I feel even better when it's a guildie.
If I keep playing this game, I will probably make Lexia a rich woman, haha.

See, I kind of disagree. When I craft stuff for people, I will accept the fuel costs and rares. However, I always feel a bit uneasy taking extra money for doing something. Ultimately, I feel I will benefit if YOU are better equipped. Plus the joy of seeing people happy with something "I made" is an internal reward. I understand people feel the need to use money as a "thank you." I guess, I will accept your gift, but I really don't expect it. (aka, Kirac is Cheap and Easy ;D )

I am really happy to help my guildies and don't like taking money; however... I would like to suggest that for spells, jewelry, etc. under 50 send me the rare, my pleasure. Lvl 51-70, send me the rare and cost of fuel. Lvl 71+, send me the rare, fuel costs (10g/spell) and at this level a tip is always appreciated..... 20g or so when you can afford it...No worries if your pressed for cash. Also, I sometimes have rares that I buy at reasonable prices...ask me and if I have some I will sell to you at cost.

Thanks for mentioning the cost of fuel, because I honestly had no idea how much that was for T8 (highest crafter got to only 35 )

Thanks for mentioning the cost of fuel, because I honestly had no idea how much that was for T8 (highest crafter got to only 35 ) Oh yeah, T8 got easy for fuels. 1 gold per fuel item. Takes 5 fuel to make a "handcrafted" item (e.g., App IV spells), 10 to make Master-crafted (e.g., Adept III spell). If you want Imbued Armor/weapons, it gets trickier. Costs 10 for the Item, then another ?10? to Imbue it.
