I got this of the forums on SOE...
This is a known issue. I petitioned after scribing volume one, and got this response:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. I am sorry to hear that you are facing problem after scribe the Enigma of the Sage Volume 1.
There is a known issue with Enigma of the Sage Volume 1. Our developers are aware and working on this issue to resolve it. I do apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Please keep an eye on our patch notes as all the updates are listed on it and if there is any sort of update related to your issue then it will also be listed on our patch notes. If you have any other issues or concerns please get back to us and we will be glad to help you.
Good luck!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So apparently we need to wait for a patch.
I am going to assume they are aware of Volume II as well. I bought this yesterday again not realizing that I had already bought it and there was nothing in it. Luckily I only paid a couple of silver for it both times.

Here is another good list of how many recipes are in the Enigma books (from the SOE forums as well):
Here is a list with each book and how manny recipes they have:
10 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 1 14 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 2 11 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 3 15 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 4 13 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 5 15 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 6 12 Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 7 13 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 1 13 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 2 14 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 3 14 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 4 15 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 5 15 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 6 17 Enigma of the Armorer Volume 7 2 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 1 9 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 2 10 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 3 15 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 4 15 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 5 14 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 6 16 Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 7 12 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 1 13 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 2 15 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 3 15 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 4 15 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 5 16 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 6 16 Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 7 2 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 1 2 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 2 2 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 3 4 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 4 2 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 5 4 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 6 5 Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 7 1 Enigma of the Sage Volume 3 1 Enigma of the Sage Volume 4 1 Enigma of the Sage Volume 5 1 Enigma of the Sage Volume 6 2 Enigma of the Sage Volume 7 18 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 1 17 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 2 22 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 3 21 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 4 22 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 5 24 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 6 23 Enigma of the Tailor Volume 7 11 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 1 11 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 2 12 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 3 12 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 4 10 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 5 12 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 6 12 Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 7 6 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 1 6 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 2 7 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 3 7 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 4 8 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 5 9 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 6 7 Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 7 4 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 1 6 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 2 11 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 3 12 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 4 13 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 5 15 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 6 15 Enigma of Transmuting Advanced Volume 7 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 1 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 2 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 3 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 4 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 5 8 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 6 10 Enigma of Transmuting Volume 7

I don't either. The sage books use components from either Tinkering or Transmuting (not sure which) so unless I give some treaured stuff to one of those guildies doing that secondary TS I can't use the recipe. I'm not buying the components off the broker as they are waaay overpriced.

As I understand it, and I am not 100% sure this is right, you use the enigma books if you are a transmuter. So, if you are both a carpenter and a transmuter, you scribe the enigma of the carpenter book and it allows you to make the adornments for carpentry items with the shards and other materials you get from transmuting. Good transmuting FAQ here: www.mboards.eqtraders.com/eq2/showthread.php?t=6502A guide to EoF adornments here: eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=g108As one post notes on the EQTraders forum, you do not need the enigma books unless you are a transmuter. Also, you only need the ones that correspond to your primary skill. For example, copying the post: What Transmuting (Enigma) Books Should I be Looking for?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got this question from a couple people so I thought I'd post my answer here. The Enigma recipe books are going for 1p+ on our server so I can understand why people don't want to buy something they can't use.
Note per Kieroth_Whiteleaf: You only need these books if your secondary skill is transmuting. If you're NOT a transmuter, there's NO reason to buy the transmuting books.
In addition to the "Enigma of Transmuting and Transmuting Advanced" recipes you also "get" your class specific recipes for your primary skills. And by "get" I mean buy or loot.
For example, I'm a carpenter so I would be looking for these books:
- Enigma of the Transmuting Volume 1 - Enigma of the Transmuting Volume 2 - Enigma of the Transmuting Volume 3 - Enigma of the Transmuting Volume 4
- Enigma of the Transmuting Advanced Volume 1 - Enigma of the Transmuting Advanced Volume 2 - Enigma of the Transmuting Advanced Volume 3 - Enigma of the Transmuting Advanced Volume 4
- Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 1 - Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 2 - Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 3 - Enigma of the Carpenter Volume 4
- Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 1 - Enigma of the Woodworker Volume 2
- Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 1 - Enigma of the Provisioner Volume 2
And for T1 Im also: Outfitter - Enigma of the Armorer Volume 1 - Enigma of the Tailor Volume 1 - Enigma of the Weaponsmith Volume 1
Scholars - Enigma of the Alchemist Volume 1 - Enigma of the Jeweler Volume 1 - Enigma of the Sage Volume 1
Every TS class can use all of the Enigma volume 1s for level 1-9. And since I'm a carpenter, I'm also a woodworker and provisioner for levels 10-19 so that allows me to use those books also.

From what Saine told me the other night about the Enigma of the Tailor books the components are just regular harvestables so you don't have to be a transmuter/tinkerer to be able to use the books. I haven't scribed one yet on Mirul but the Enigma/Sage books the components definately come from transmuting or tinkering.

I do not think you *have* to be a transmuter, actually, but the components do come from transmuters, not regular harvesting, for at least some of the recipes - not sure about all of them. But you can buy the shards or powders from a transmuter, or have an alt send them to you. A link to all known recipes/books, including several of the enigma ones, is here: eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=g33&menustr=080040000000

Huh what? lol I didn't say that! hehe I don't actually know anything about the Enigma books as I haven't done anything with them yet hehe As for books that the components come from, if they are from transmuting, I would think anyone would still be able to use them. Howeverm if you weren't a transmuter as your secondary skill, it would cost you a small fortune to have a transmuter break down the materials and turn them into what you need. I do know that every class can make stuff with transmuted items, just you will have to buy the components if you aren't a transmuter...and since those are WAY over priced, I don't think I will be doing that any time soon.

ok, maybe it was Zabia... sorry! I apologize! Saine you are so knowledgable it's easy to assume it was you. I do believe it was Zabia that I was talking to as she was looking for the Enigma/tailor Vol 7 book.

So, overall:
Alchemist-90 Armorer-101 Carpenter-81 Jeweler-102 Provisioner-21 Sage-6 Tailor-147 Weaponsmith-80 Woodworker-50
As well as everyone getting 134 more recipes from the shared books.
Wow, Tailor's sure get a lot of recipes for transmuting! And sages really get the short end of the stick...

The enigma of tailoring books have both recipes for adornments and for mastercrafted cloaks. You do need the transmuted stuff to make adornments but only harvested items to make a cloak.

Ahh, that explains why Tailor's get so many recipes. What is that, 2 for T1 and T2 and 3 extra per other tier (I think that's how many MC cloaks there are...)?

Okay here's a quick, what I know. There are books for each profession (as Mirul listed above) If you are that profession you can scribe that line of books (i.e. Alchemist can scribe Enigma of ALchemist 1 - 7 books). You DO NOT have to be a transmuter to create items. But, if you are not a transmuter you will need to buy your supplies obviously. Probably the confusing thing is Transmuters have a line of Recipes to. Those are for people with the Transmuter secondary skill. So Candu (as an alchemist/transmuter) can use both the Alchemist and Transmuter books.
Number of recipes per book can be kind of deceptive. It all depends on what the recipe is. From what I have seen on the broker about 90% to 95% of the adornments (which is what you make from these enigma books) enhances weapons. The rest enhances armor. Becasue there are so-o-o-o many Weapon adorments and they basically do 1 of 4 things (DD, DOT, damage + Health heal or damage plus Power Heal) there is a flood on the market and you can buy a good adormant for a few silver. Expect to pay a few Plat for a Armor adornment. So, I would gladly exchange my 101 Alchemist recipes for 7 armor adornments (1 per level). BTW. I haven't figured out who the luck few are that get the armor adornments.

I know armorers make some of the armor adornments, and jewelers make some of the jewelry type ones. Not sure which, I know armorers can't make them for all slots. It's like forearms, shoulders and gloves or something like that.
