So has anyone else chosen "The Way of Pain" known as Transmuting?
I hit a skill of 25 today and if the first 25 skill points are any indication boy this is going to be a long, long road.
Anyway, wondering who my Transmuting buddies are and what their impressions have been so far. BTW, is there somewhere alternate tradeskill is posted (like in a roster or something)?

If you look on the eq2 players site it's on there. You have to look up the individual character though. Then when it shows their profile it will tell you if they are a tinkerer or transmuter.

Fonia is doing transmuting. I think she is like at 51 or so. It gets a little easier once you can use the recipe books but the ingredients are so expensive right now it is still easier and cheaper to make your own ingredients. But I can see it will take forever to get this skill up really high.

I'm going to go Transmuter with shylah. I need to do some research before I begin though.

Well 51 isnt that high really. It is not a level like in regular tradeskills. It is more like harvesting. You do the transmuting or make an adornment and you may or may not get a skill point. I think the highest you can get is 300 so I have a long way to go Zabia

I made my bruiser a transmuter last night. I got sick of tinkering on Saine - 2000 loams used in T4 and still need at least another 200-400 I made a newbie alt and ran around on the island then around forest ruins for awhile, I managed to get quite a few pieces of treasured gear, a couple of adepts and even a master from a solo snake. So far it's way easier levelling the transmuter, but I know that changes once you get to 100 skill level.

That's a good idea about making a new character and running around Newbie island.
The really weird thing that I can't get use to is making adornments as a Transmuter ( not to confuse everyone, everyone can make adornments, including Transmuters)
You don't get a skill check at every tick like with a normal crafting skill... You get one skill check after completing the item - One check per item.. Uck! Also, you only have 4 counters (though I have never had to counter anything) 2 that add durability and 2 that add progress. And the real killer is that they are linked odd. The durability ones are linked together and the progress ones are linked together... Double Uck!! and they are not upgradable... Triple Uck!!!

Yea the noobie character made a HUGE difference. I had a 32 slot box in my shared bank filled in about 45 min from noobie isle. Once I moved into Forest Ruins/Oakmyst it slowed down a little, but I still didn't have to buy anything! I have the XP on my farmer alt turned off right now, I'm not too sure when I can turn it back on. I need to make sure I get enough of the under lvl 10 items before I turn it back on. How do I know when I can use level 11, 12 or 13 items? I heard something about your transmuting level divided by 5, plus 5 is what you can break down? Is that correct?
The tinkerer abilites work exactly the same as far as the tick coming at the end (That is if you are lucky enough to have one!) You also only get the 4 abilities that are all linked also. I haven't quite figured those out yet myself either, since I have never once seen anything I had to counter. Using them and not using them doesn't seem to make too much of a difference in how long it takes to make something either.
One thing I am wondering though, on a tinker when you make something it's exactly the same as a regular tradeskill. There's 4 levels to the item. You can actually skill up just fine by making the first line (what would be crude on a normal TS) the only difference is that the further you take the item, the more material that gets returned to you. So if my recipie takes 22 loams, 20 feyiron, and 8 opals, if I make crude I get 1 feyiron back. If I make pristine I get like 6 back.
How does this work for a transmuter? I haven't actually had to make anything yet, because I have just been breaking stuff down. Do you have to make pristine? And if not, what is the difference between a pristine and a non pristine?

You usually can break items 5 levels higher than your Transmuting skill divided by 5. That is, if you have a Transmute skill of 60, you can break a level 17 item (60 divided by 5 = 12 plus 5 is 17).
The same thing for crafting Adornments. So, far all the recipes I have take 2 fragments and 1 power. If you make it through the "pristine" level you get 1 fragment back.

I took up transmuting with an alt. It went well in the beginning, but I also used an alt on Queen's Colony to pick up low-level treasured gear & adepts to break down. He leveled slowly but steadily up until skill 100. Now he's at a very slow pace, b/c he only gets skill-ups from crafting the transmuter recipes. Not much variety in what I can (afford to) make, and the market seems to be flooded right now with the transmuter attunements (cause I suppose everyone else is doing the same thing).
I'm going the tinkering route with Brandl. Haven't really figured things out yet there. Seems a little confusing, but I haven't really started yet, either.

I made my main a tinkerer. It's actually really easy if you have the raws, and levels VERY fast. I went from 200/350 to 350/350 in about 3 hours. If you have any questions about the tinkering, let me know. I made my 2 boxed healer a transmuter the other day. It's kind of a hassle getting the low level stuff for her. I definitely liked the tinkering more, but think the transmuting will be more valuable in the end.
