Since they gave carpenters more work (yay!) I wondered how to price our wares? Typically, I just do a search on the item I made and follow the trend. I'll either sell high or low depending on my mood and if I'm sure the item will sell. But how would I price something that's not on the market? I don't want to sell anything too high or low. The other day I made a rock table thing.. I can't remember what it was called. But I sold it for 8 gold. Turns out that the guy I sold it too is reselling it for 14 gold... and now all tables of that kind are around 14 gold. I feel ripped off in a way Suggestions?

Well that isn't cool! I made one of those too. It's sitting in the middle of my apartment only because I didnt getting around to pricing it. I dont know what else you can do. Sounds like you do the same. All I do is go out and see what others are selling and price accordingly. If there isnt one out there I price it higher at least 5 gold higher for something similar. I also recheck prices if something that hasn't sold and lower if I need to. But I'm just flying by the seat of my pants and go with what I feel is good. I probably under-price so people will not think I'm gouging!

Well you can sell that table for 14-12 gold How do you look up things similar? Do you do a search on chairs or tables and kind of run with the pack?

Do a search for your item, take the lowest price, knock 1-10% off depending on how fast you want to sell. For your table, if it sells on average for 14 gold, sell it for 12. Hopefully it will go fast so you don't tie up your inventory. To be honest, 8 gold is still a good profit for the ugly rock table. It was one of the less popular pieces of merchant furniture.

Palen, my main question was how would I price it if there are no others on the market to make comparisons? I totally agree to doing a search and dropping the price I just don't know what to do when there's nothin' there on my search. And yes. The table is the ugly.

Unfortunately I never have this problem there's some dolt who sells his crafted armor for literally 3-15 silver more than what it sells back to the merchant for. The worst part is that he floods the market with it, and often has more than 1 page of it up grrrrr. When he's there I don't even bother trying to sell my stuff, there's no point, I just sell it back to the merchant. For furniture though, if there's nothing else to compare it too, I would see how much the merchant would pay me for it, then mark it up based upon that. I try not to rip people off, so I'd price it at something I'd feel good about it selling for..and if someone buys it to resell it, oh well good for them. I hope they enjoy having an overpriced item to sell, cause I'd just make more of them, and undercut the reseller lol

haha good point How do you typically mark up prices from the merchant? Sometimes, I'll have some shield or something and it sells for only 5 silver to the merchant but it's selling for 25 or 30 silver on the market. Do you just times it by 3 or something? That table I was talking about earlier? I thought it was so ugly that I was going to sell it for 1 gold. I'm glad I changed my mind and sold it for 8!

I think Palen and Saien are the pro's here. But here's my 2cp. First, if you made a profit you was happy with when selling the table at 8 gp, then be... well... happy. Any fool can slap any price on anything and TRY to sell it. I have seen T2 (is that iron?) forged swords on the broker for 10p.. yea, right... Saine has good advice. Make a couple more tables and sell the for 8 gp too. If the reseller keeps buying them, keep making them... (sort of a captured audience there). Second, to play the market you have to know the market, feel the market, be the market!!! ...err.. sorry got a little carried away there. For example, I start and end each day just browsing through the broker's goods. I have about 6 or 8 favorite searches I like to do and I always do a global search (hit reset, find... brings up EVERYTHING for sell) just to laugh at some of the prices. Third, develop a strategy. Two popular one's are the "build a Niche" (make one thing, make a BUNCH, sell low enough to scare off prospective competitors) or "Jack of all Trades" (build one or two of everything you can make and restock only those items that sell) Fourth, Don't be in too big of a hurry to sell stuff. I have had days when my merchant hasn't sold hardly anything and then I have had days were buyers have pretty much stripped him clean. Be in it for the long haul... Okay, That was more like 4cp's worth (with 20% commission that comes to...) Candu Altings

Heres one that no one mentioned and must be the best way of doing it since I see more and more people doing it.....Sell everything for 1 platinum or more. Piece of snake meat that sells for 6 copper to the merchant....sell for 6 platinum. That way you always know what to sell it for...merchant price multiplied by 1 plat.
