** guys you can answer this thread too I was wondering if you ladies have noticed a change in MMORPGs? I have played many online games ... all the way back to Diablo I and such. I remember those early days and how I would get so much 'attention' because I was a girl playing a computer game. A number of things happened... 1. No one believed I was a girl 2. No one cared if I was a girl, I was a girl character = girl = a/s/l? 3. Get a fan club of heroes 4. Dirty talkers... With EQII, I haven't run into this much, which is great! I get some guys that are happy to find out that I'm a 'real' girl and we chit chat and all that. But it's not like they get all gross and stupid. (strange how that's a common thing with guys.. haha) Do you all think that the number of girls playing computer and console games has increased? Do you all think that the times are 'different' today then they were in the past with mens reactions to a girl gamer online?

LOL
In EQ2 I actually haven't run across much. Most people tend to assume I'm a guy playing a female character I think. If they find out I am actually a girl, they don't change much except to say things like "Wow you're husband is lucky that you like video games!! I wish my girlfriend/wife whatever would play" Also, a lot of them tend to start calling me Hun after that, but that's about it.
I know when I played EQOA on the playstation, if people found out I was really a girl they'd start hitting on me or want to "cyber" or something, no thanks!!! I think there were a lot more younger people on there though, and not as many RL female players....EQ2 seems to have a more mature community for the most part and a lot of women play. I've even been in a few groups where all the players were women (or at least say they are lol)
Oh and no offence to anyone in our guild that may do this hehe, but I always think it's a little odd when guys make and only play female characters....I tried playing one of Palen's male characters in EQOA and it just felt really creepy lol

Back in the days of EQ1 when I first started, I accidently created a Female Ogre SHM. I never realized it, as both the male and female ogres were equally as ugly. I happened to chance upon a Male paladin near the Feerott. He was helping me kill all kinds of critters, gave me a few bags to carry my loot and everything. I noticed that you ladies tend to get a lot more help than if you were a guy. After I logged on the next time and watched the character image rotate around, figured out that I was a female ogre, I subsequently deleted it. I've never played a female char since (accidently or otherwise) Malliner

I played EQ1 as well. All of my characters were girls, and the whole "flirting" and extra attention thing ran rampant in that game. It sort of made me mad because sometimes people wouldnt leave me alone. However, I have noticed a huge change in EQ2. Theres has been only one instance that I can remember where someone hit on me while I was playing Illusen, and he wouldnt let up. I do solo a lot nowadays though, so that may have something to do with it. Overall I think people seem to act more mature in this game, at least with that aspect of things. As for playing a boy character, Ive never played one. Maybe someday I'll get on Derin and see if I notice a difference

***I AM NOT A GIRL***
But I play a female Iksar model becuase i think its a lot cooler looking then the male iksar (linebacker, no neck, etc..) The same thing in EQ1, I played Iksar female because the model was way more unique.
I have only had one person bother me in EQ2 for the assumtion that i was a girl, rather revolting hehe but it stopped quickly when Daisy came up and verified I was her husband.
IMO i think the crowd playing EQ2 is quite a but older and mature then say EQ1 or even World of Warcraft. Most people I speak to are the same age range, most are married, some with children. The way people act and treat others are directly related to that i believe. Of course there will always be exceptions!

Well, I've come up with a personal rule over the years. Assume everyone's a guy until proven otherwise. And then keep a grain of doubt anyway. It makes life so much easier for me. ;D
And I didn't even realize that Inex had a female model. O.O

Zabia recently discovered and I never thought of telling that I am indeed a guy. I play female characters because if I am going to stare at something for hours on end it better be something pleasant. I like the female characters since they seem to have more charm. If anyone ever tries to flirt with me I just simply ignore it. And if anyone now thinks I am creepy or weird, then so be it. I will just leave if need be.

Wow, I had no idea Wendy! Well, I think things have definitely changed. I remember back in the day, I use to get hit on rather frequently and it was really annoying. There were times when being a girl had its benefits because, as Malliner mentioned, some guys are more kinder to girl players. Haha but I would feel so bad and would refuse gifts. With EQ2 I haven't really experienced any troubles. Only a change in tone, kind of like what Saine mentioned. I get a 'huns' more often and stuff like that. I'm pretty happy with EQ2 and I'm glad that it's not full of immature kiddos. I played WoW for 10 days. I got that free trial thingy. I played a hunter wood elf... geesh! THAT game has a lot of young immature dorks. I wasn't even out of the newbie yard when guys would ask me to dance for them

I just hope no one treats me differently. That would be on someone else's end not mine since I never tried to be a girl but no one ever asked.
I stopped playing WOW, and yes I was a male toon, and couldn't stand the immaturity, either. The guys kept wanting to dual me and it was very, very annoying.

I knew it! Well, I never was completely certain, buu I was pretty sure that you were a guy Wendy. (wow, that sounds weird... ;D) But I don't think you're strange, I have a friend that plays female toons for the exact same reason.

LOL I had NO idea you were actually a guy Wendy!!! Llike I said I wasn't trying to offend anyone who plays a character the opposite gender than they are, I personally don't like it for myself, but I also know the vast majority of those playing female characters are actually males. There's nothing wrong with it, if there were, you wouldn't be allowed to do it

according to a recent study there have been huge changes in the demographics of MMORPGs. i don't remember the exact stats but almost 1/2 the players are women and almost 1/2 of those are over 30. it used to be heavily teen - twentyish male.
i've played both male and female characters. i can absolutely relate to Wendy's comment about what is more interesting to look at. whatever the demographics of the game the designers and programmers are mostly young men with idealized depictions of women that provide much more entertaining visuals than the male characters.

I tried to play a male character once... but I kept giggling and saying girl things... Not very good for a manly barbarian warrior type lol
