Ok -- it's way past time for another installment ---- ;D
There's a lot to write -- it gets complicated, so I'd better break it up some .............
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The gates were closing slowly. Fortunately, the fight had been fast and chaotic enough to have taken most of the guards by surprise. They found themselves engaged briefly by the few guards outside, and took them down quickly.
Toqua had her pet as a sacrifice outside by the gate as Kendo ran through. The following guards were distracted by it's attack, giving the Barbarian time to collect his fellow rescuers, and have them call the horses.
Alfreya stood beside her horse and waited, "Ken....."
"No time for a heal, Alf. I'll have to wait."
He put a supporting hand on his side, and mounted his horse with the other.
Alfreya looked up at her leader and frowned, "Kendo, you're going to pass out. You have got to get healed."
"Alfreya. I don't want any arguments now. Get on your horse, and let's get out of here." He leaned down and whispered, "And that is an order, Alfreya."
He turned his horse and started off.
Alfreya gave a sigh and put one hand on her horse's saddle, when a pain suddenly went through the back of her head, and the world went black around her.
Kendo's band went the straightest route out of Freeport. Straight out and pass the Crossroads, and on to wards Lucan's Mount. The Mount would give them all a place to rest and recuperate before the inevitable fight with the party from Freeport. It was high enough that they could see them coming and defensible. All of this Kendo had quickly thought out as he had fought the guards, and it crystallized now as he and his party raced toward the lonely outcropping of rock in the Commonlands.
Unknown to Kendo and the rest, one of their party was missing.
Alfreya felt the movement of a horse beneath her --- "Strange", she thought, "I'm laying down?"
Her green eyes opened to see only blue, fuzzy sky above her.
And indeed she was, to her dismay, laying down.
Her eyes cleared and the world became less foggy, even though she had a terrible pain in the back of her head. It was then that she realized who, or what, her companion was. She was being held and carried by one of the biggest Ogres she had ever seen.
He looked down at her as she moved to get a better look at her surroundings. He caught her eye, and she was still.
She was still for the rest of the time, even though the position she was in got to be very uncomfortable for her. The Ogre stopped his horse outside a small cave entrance. Then without warning Alfreya, he picked her up and placed her on the ground beside him and dismounted.
She watched in silence as he made their camp a ways inside the cave. He motioned her inside, and she went in.
After a bit, he finished cooking a meager meal, just barely enough for two. They ate in silence.

The rescue party finally got to Lucan's Mount and climbed it part way to the summit before Kendo gave the signal to stop.
His pain and weakness were obvious, and he almost fell off of his horse as he dismounted. Flaena walked over to where he was sitting and bent down to help him.
"Kendo, you're going to have to take off some of the armor. I just can't heal you very well with it on."
He looked up at her and gave a weak smile, "I've seen you heal in the middle of a fight before, Flaena."
"OH so now you're a healer, too, as well as a fighter --- and you're telling ME how to heal?" Her voice took on a slightly irritated tone.
He gave a small, embarrassed smile, "Ok, heal away." He painfully stood up and removed the once well polished, but now very badly damaged chest piece, and sat back down.
Flaena tried to hide her expression when she first saw his wounds. She had seen some very bad ones in her experience as a templar, but these were particularly bad.
"Bad?"
"Very."
Kendo flinched. "Sorry, Kendo."
"I thought healing wasn't supposed to hurt."
"Depends on the wounds. These are bad, she paused, what hit you?"
There was a long silence, Flaena looked up to make sure he hadn't passed out, "A troll by the name of Baash."
Flaena stopped, "He told you his name?"
Kendo nodded. "He ment to kill you, Ken."
"He almost did."
"I hope you killed him."
A smile crept across Kendo's face, "Nope, didn't kill him ... but I got him back," he looked over at the two scouts Shylah and Kaaylin and the smile got bigger, "with some help from my friends."
They smiled back, "Any time, Boss," Kaaylin replied.
"I'm just about done here, Ken." Flaena looked up once more at him, "Now TRY and stay out of trouble."
"I'll do my best, I promise."
He looked over at the others in his party, as he thought about the fight ahead of them, and paused, a frown came to his face, "Where's Alf?"
Silence as everyone quickly looked, "Ok, that's it. I'm going back to get her. She was right behind me at the gate."
"I'm coming, too."
"No. Flaena, stay here with the others; Shy and I will go."
He looked over at his Dwarf second in command, "Gimbali, you're in charge while I'm gone."
"Aye."
"Use the invis totems folks, no more problems....." , his voice trailed off to silence.
"If you see ANY suspicious activity ---- head toward home. Is that clear?"
Everyone nodded their understanding, "OK. Take care. Gim... you know what to do.... don't worry about Shy and me, just the others. We'll get back home ... with Alfreya."
He mounted his horse; Shylah was already on hers. He gave a nod to Shy, and kicked his horse into action.
"Kendo, wait," Kaaylin's voice came from behind him.
He turned to see a worried expression on Kaaylin's face, and she whispered, "We've got company."
